Jesse Gibson

January 28, 1975 — February 18, 2017

Our loving son, brother and uncle passed away peacefully at his home, February 18, 2017, at the age of 42. Jesse finally succumbed to the many health issues that have plagued him most of his adult life. Jesse was born on January 28, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Layne and Linda Gibson. Jesse was a lifelong resident of West Valley City. During his childhood, you could find Jesse fishing the Jordan River by his home or fishing and camping up at Millow Hollow and Trial Lake Campgrounds. He loved baseball and played in the little leagues in West Valley. He was an avid fan of the World Wrestling Entertainment on T.V. and collected many of their action figures. He loved watching horror and sci-fi movies and hanging out with his best friends Ricky Littleford and Richard Tierno. Jesse graduated from Granite High School in 1993. After high school, Jesse chose a career path that led him to become an apprentice for the pipe fitters union 140. He was one year away from becoming a journeyman before his health started deteriorating. Jesse was a stay at home uncle! Because of his health issues, he could no longer work. He always wanted a family but felt it was best not to have one because of his health. He really was an amazing father figure to all of his nieces and to his nephew who he loved unconditionally and they loved him like he was their own dad. Jesse was a huge help in watching over these little ones even when he was not feeling well. His mother always said he was her right arm and could always count on him to be there to help her babysit and anything else she needed him to do. Jesse did all these things out of love, never looking for praise or money. In our eyes, being a father figure to his nieces and nephew was the greatest job he ever had or anyone can have for that matter. His influence will be felt for years to come. His life truly did have meaning and purpose even when he didn't think so. He was so kind, compassionate and always asked how everyone was doing. He truly did have a heart of gold. Jesse enjoyed the simple pleasures in life which included having ice coffee every morning from the 7-11. He loved playing cards with his Grandma Gloria, Aunt Dorothy and Aunt Bonnie. Survived by mother Linda Gibson (Larry Tso); siblings Misty Gibson, Levi Gibson (Holly); and nieces Savannah, McKenzie, Brielle; nephew Austin; step-brother Cody Tso ; step-sister Shaylee Tso; aunt Bonnie Thomas (Darrell); uncle Jack Whitehead (Maryann); and many uncles and cousins. Jesse is preceded in death by his father Layne Gibson; grandfather Harold Whitehead; grandmother, Gloria Arnold; and Aunt Dorothy Scoggan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where viewings will be held Friday, February 24th, 6-8:00 p.m. and again prior to services on Saturday from 10-10-:45 a.m. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
