Janice Hall Thayne "Together Forever"

August 3, 1930 — August 23, 2016

Janice Marie Hall Thayne, 86, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at her home in Taylorsville, Utah. She was born August 3, 1930 in Eureka, Utah, to Joseph Franklin and Tolla Nielsen Hall. She grew up in Pioche, Nevada, Payson, Utah, and Salt Lake City, where she graduated from West High School. She married Donald Avery Thayne in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 25, 1952. He preceded her in death in March 2015. They are the parents of three children. Janice was an active member of the LDS Church and loved the gospel. She served as a humanitarian missionary, Visitor Center guide on Temple Square, as a temple missionary in the Laie, Hawaii Temple and an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. She had a generous heart and she and Don dedicated their lives in service to others. She was a wonderful cook and talented homemaker and loved crocheting, sewing and other crafts. Her banana-nut bread recipe was near famous and neighbors in Hawaii would sometimes drop off full branches of bananas on her doorstep as a not-so-subtle call to action. She especially loved her in-laws and extended family. She tried her best to teach us all the importance of serving others. Janice is survived by her three children, Karla Dawn (Kelly) Freebairn, Jared (RaeAnne) Thayne, Melanie Child; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Grace Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Frankie Truscott and Carolyn Baggett. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 27th, 11:00 a.m., at the Taylorsville 9th Ward, 2030 W. Chateau Avenue, Taylorsville, UT, where viewings will be held Friday, August 26th, 6-8:00 p.m. and again prior to services on Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
