George Washington Jessop III

King George got on his beloved Harley one last time and rode straight into Heaven on May 17, 2018. George Washington Jessop III was born October 23, 1947 to George W. Jessop Jr. and Dorothy (Hess) in Wilkinsburg, PA. When he was 15 months old, Dorothy went to Heaven. His grandma Clara Jessop helped raise him until his dad married Mary Jane Nicholson (Nikki). He grew up in the Pittsburgh area and graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He served four years, including two tours in Vietnam. He earned the Vietnam Combat Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Naval Unit Citation. After discharge, George moved to Utah, where he lived out his life. He retired from Tooele Army Depot in 1979 due to an injury. After that, he completed his Bachelor's Degree in history at the University of Utah and was a substitute teacher for several years. He was a great storyteller, who made learning fun for his listeners. His family and friends often say they learned more history from him than they did in school. George had one daughter, Mary Esther Jessop and one grandson and namesake, Anthony George Washington Jessop. He was an outstanding father and grandfather, setting aside other activities to spend time with both Mary and Anthony. When Mary was growing up, they spent many hours playing with Tasha Dog in Tanner Park and hiking to Mary's Lake. He convinced Mary that Mary's Lake was named after her. When Anthony started school, George came over every day so Anthony would not have to come home to an empty house. He often picked Anthony up from school on his Harley and they loved to go for ice cream on the way home. George plied Mary and Anthony with books and movies. George was passionate about life, giving 100% to everything he became involved in. He had many interests, including history which led to involvement in the Society for Creative Anachronism and WWII re-enactment. In the late 70s, he purchased a VW Thing or Kubelwagen, which ended up painted WWII German camouflage. In recent years, George became an advocate for veterans, helping many get their VA benefits and being a friend. George's greatest passions were his family, his motorcycle and his faith in God. He began riding as a teenager and owned only Harleys, claiming they and BMWs are the only real motorcycles. He said you should have a Harley to wrench on and a BMW to ride. He belonged to various motorcycle clubs through the years, the last one being the Marines MC. He loved his MC brothers and spoke of you often to his family. SEMPER FI! George studied the Bible voraciously and remembered everything he learned. His faith changed his life and he shared that with all he knew and anyone who would listen. He wanted others to know the amazing affect God's love and influence had on him. He became a man of prayer, always lifting his friends and family to God. George is survived by his daughter Mary (fianc Aaron Poulson), grandsons Anthony George Washington and Lil Aaron Poulson; partner Carma Jessop, her children Mike Chadwick, Amy (Roy) Sheppard;grandson Brady Chadwick; siblings Robert, William, & Betty Jessop, niece Nicki Riley, & grandnieces Harley & Jade.
