David Spencer Ferguson

February 6, 1966 — April 19, 2018

David Spencer Ferguson passed away on April 19, 2018 at the age of 52. He was born on Feb. 6, 1966 to Paul Spencer Ferguson and Laraine Kowallis Ferguson in Bronxville, New York. He was raised in Bountiful, Utah. He married Kathryn Rose Taylor on Sept. 17, 1993, and they were sealed together on Dec. 21, 1994 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of five children and the grandparents of one and a half grandchildren. David loved his Savior, Jesus Christ and was devoted to Him and His gospel. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in the Brazil Sao Paolo South Mission from 1985-1987. He earned his Eagle Scout award in the Bountiful 31st Ward and served in many callings throughout his life. His favorite callings were teaching Gospel Doctrine and teaching the High Priests' Group. He graduated from Bountiful High School and from the University of Utah with a degree in Business Management. He was employed by the LDS Church for many years, where he had the opportunity to work with many of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the Presiding Bishopric. The most important thing in David's life was his family. He loved to tickle and wrestle with his children, and he loved to dance with Rosie in the kitchen. David loved music. He played the trumpet in high school, he had a great bass voice, and he could "name that tune" with any song on the radio within two notes. He also liked baseball, typography, computers, and the movie It's a Wonderful Life. He always said that during the Creation of the world, he was on the "duck committee." He loved ducks! For the past 16 years, David struggled with a debilitating sickness. He gradually lost his physical abilities, but his mental and spiritual self was still strong and well. He loved to have his family around him even when he wasn't able to communicate with them. And he would still laugh at their jokes. David loved to laugh! David will be greatly missed by those who survive him: his wife, Rosie; his children, Alex, Ian (Amanda), Lucy, Abby (Preston Eyre), Wendy, and Spencer; his grandson, Ephraim; his parents, Paul and Laraine, one sister, Lise (Darren Bennett), and many others who loved him. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lara Emma Ferguson; his grandparents, Daniel Paul and Beth Spencer Ferguson, and Albert Brenner and Gay Perry Kowallis; and uncle, David Sully Ferguson. A viewing will be held at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, on Tuesday, April 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25 at 11:00 am at the LDS chapel at 5176 W. Parr Dr. (8430 S.), West Jordan. A viewing will also be held before the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Parr Dr. chapel. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
