Betty Joan Howard Mortensen

February 24, 1940 — August 13, 2017

Betty was born February 24, 1940 in Twin Falls, Idaho and passed away peacefully in her home, August 13, 2017 in St. George, Utah. She is the daughter of Joseph Marshall Howard and Martha Tressa Samuelson Howard. She married the love of her life, Lee Wayne Mortensen, in Colorado Springs in 1956, and they were later sealed for time and all eternity along with their children in the Salt Lake Temple in 1976. Betty and Lee moved to Northglenn, Colorado from Taylorsville, Utah in 1969. They lived and served there for many years. After Lee's retirement, they served three missions for the LDS Church in Perth, Australia, The London England Temple and Mobile, Alabama. They lived in Grand Lake, Colorado for a few years and then moved to St. George in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee; infant son, Kenneth; parents; three brothers: William Howard, Gene Howard and Robert Howard (Her twin brother). She is survived by her children: Lynn Mortensen (Gwen), Wendy Mortensen, Penny Malavasic (Dave); 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her dear sister Shirley "Nadine" McIntosh. She has also been blessed with many other loving family members! A viewing will be held Thursday, August 17, 2017, 9:30-10:30 a.m., with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m., at the Morningside Stake Center, 881 South River Road, St. George, Utah 84790. Another viewing will be held later that day, Thursday August 17th, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah 84123. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 18th, 10:00 a.m., at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please send your donation to the LDS Humanitarian Aid, 1665 Bennett Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 or HumanitarianCenter@LDSChurch.org.
