Benjamin Alan Seegrist

April 21, 1994 — June 13, 2017

Celestial Missionary, Beloved Son, Loving Brother Benjamin Alan Seegrist, the fourth child of five, entered this world into the loving arms of his parents, Glen Robert and Anna Viktoria Koehler Seegrist, on April 21, 1994, in West Jordan, Utah. Ben was well known on this Earth for his loving, caring and compassionate heart. He would make sacrifices to always ensure his friends, family and those most close to him were taken care of, and most often at the cost of his own needs. Unexpectedly, Ben returned to live with his loving Savior and Heavenly Father at the young age of just 23 years old on June 13, 2017. His body was found by his loving father, peacefully, in his bedroom following a stroke. Ben is survived by his parents; brother, Alexander (Stephannie) Seegrist; nephew, Zander Seegrist; sisters, Vivianna (Josh) David, Amanda (Dallin) Roberts, Savannah (fianc Spencer Watchman) Seegrist; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roger and Carol Seegrist, and Herbert and Faye Koehler; and his cousin, Dallin Braithwaite. During his time on Earth, Ben excelled in music. His outstanding talent with rhythm and rhyme dazzled all those around him a beautifully intuitive mind that mastered this craft with unparalleled success. He was so good at memorizing lines from movies or songs that he would stop you dead in your tracks if you made the grave error of misquoting something that you obviously should have known! He expanded this art to the point of creating his own quotes and poetic prose often found on his social media time line. This has proven more comforting and prophetic than he would have ever imagined during our time of grieving and reflection of all that has happened. One such quote from Benjamin from September 2015 simply says, "Death is not a sorrow but a joy mixed with tears." Ben was blessed with an amazing love for animals. This was shown through his continuous efforts in rescuing dogs. What may have seemed impractical, illogical or complicated to most was just a day in the life of Ben he was very passionate about it. More than once he would set out, albeit unannounced or coordinated with family, on these "rescue missions" driving many hours to keep a dog from being put down. He was so concerned for their well being that he would need to meet, inspect the premises and interview any new potential parents before an "adoption" of that dog was ever allowed. With his own two adopted dogs, Moses and Gordon, he wanted nothing but the best, allowing them to sleep in his room and on his bed nightly. After all, they were his own children, he loved them more than life itself. When Ben was discovered in his room, his dogs were found quietly attending his peaceful body until family could arrive. Their love for each other was mutually deep and beyond words. Just like his father and older brother Alexander, Ben was blessed and honored to earn his Eagle Scout award with The Boy Scouts of America. He was also privileged to receive his Duty to God award from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ben was actively involved in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, restored on this Earth in these latter days, and while younger would bare his testimony almost every Fast Sunday. Ben was a weekly attender of the Saint George LDS Temple doing baptisms for the dead with his sisters and then enjoying tasty French toast after, compliments of Kneaders on Bluff Street. Among some challenges and trials, he received his Patriarchal Blessing a couple years ago and always longed for the fulfillment of his promised blessings as an ordained member of the House of Israel. Benjamin looked forward to serving a full time mission, finding a wife and starting an eternal family of his own. Through a window of revelation, we all now understand, and know he will be fulfilling these sacred promises in a realm beyond this imperfect world. All that was promised Ben will be fulfilled in perfect measure because of the glorious atonement and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We know with a certainty, Ben is teaching those beyond the veil with the start of his newly assigned mission. His proclamation of the Savior's plan, the Doctrine of Christ, will be proclaimed with his hard work, determination, compassion and unconditional love. And, as we all know, those terrific, tight, rib busting "Ben Hugs" the tightest hugs anyone has ever known or ever felt! Ben's life is an example, a pure testimony to all of us, to live and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in every capacity or situation we are placed in. He would want us to look and pray for opportunities on a daily basis to "succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees." (D&C 81:5.) We are all admonished to activate the Savior's perfect love, the gift of charity, and the atonement in our own lives just as Ben did. In September of 2015, Ben proclaimed to his social media family something we all need at this time and until we have truly completed all our own mortal experiences. He said fervently to carry on, to stay the course, to "LiveStrong" and never give up! "When your mind gets tired, and your heart grows cold when you find yourself at the crossroads, just don't let go." As our newest guardian angel, Benjamin Alan Seegrist, your light shines bright within us all. Fondest adieu, our beloved son, brother and friend, and God be with you til we meet again! You will be missed by all that had the blessing of being touched by your special life, but we know you are closer to us now than ever before. Love, your eternal family and friends.
